For Jane, painting is about much more than putting brush to canvas. It is a way of capturing the character of the places around her and sharing her enthusiasm for art and life. As a full-time professional artist, Jane finds endless inspiration in her surroundings. “I often feel I’m one of the luckiest people,” she says. “I love the mix of industrial architecture and natural beauty, and I like nothing better than capturing the essence of what I see and conveying my love of the area through my paintings.”

Jane founded and ran the Bingley Gallery with her husband, Rob, for 12 years until handing over to fellow artist David Starley. She continues to maintain a permanent collection of her work here, largely consisting of her much-loved Janescapes. For four weeks, however, the gallery’s main exhibition space will be devoted to a much broader selection of Jane’s work. The show: ‘Jane Fielder – Other Sides’, offers visitors the chance to see the many different facets of an artist whose inspiration has ranged from the streets of Bingley to the flowers of the Cotswolds — and from moments of joy to periods of profound personal difficulty.

More about Jane Fielder below gallery

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=”WM Gallery” gallery_ids=”10075,10088,10080,10090,10076,10078,10081,10079,10077,10082,10083,10087,10089,10091″ posts_number=”30″ _builder_version=”3.20.2″ hover_overlay_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.9)” /][et_pb_text admin_label=”Biog” _builder_version=”3.20.2″ background_color=”#000000″]

From a childhood love of painting and sticking together coloured paper, Jane’ enthusiasm for art has grown over the years, after moving to Limerick and finishing school there, she trained as a teacher and worked at that for some years, but the job left little time for her own painting. An art foundation course at West Surrey College of Art put her back on the path towards becoming an artist. Marriage and family followed, with Jane moving to West Yorkshire. Here, she found a landscape whose “strange beauty” appealed to her and began developing a balance between family life and her growing commitment to art attending Bradford and Ilkley Community College and being a key member of Aire Valley Arts.

Among the more unusual highlights of her career was taking part in Antony Gormley’s 4th Plinth project. For each hour over one hundred days a series of different people were lifted up to occupy the empty plinth of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square – in her case to paint on behalf of the Bradford Burns Unit. She has also undertaken a residency and exhibition in Shanghai and appeared on the television programme The Yorkshire Auction House.

Jane’s distinctive “Janescapes”, painted in bold colours, capture the Bingley and it’s surroundings in all its quirky character, often featuring her trademark washing line, strung between the buildings. However, Jane’s artistic repertoire extends far beyond the local landscape. Her floral paintings use delicate watercolour washes and acrylic ink to explore the fragility and intensity of flowers. Mixed-media works incorporate unexpected found objects, from plastic wrapping to dead flies. She is also an enthusiastic life drawer and has organised life-drawing classes for herself and others over many years. The short poses required in life drawing encourage a particularly energetic and loose style of painting. Her ‘dot’ paintings date to a more difficult time in her life after her mother suffered a severe stroke. In response she began filling paper and canvas with dots, often arranged in highly structured, regular patterns. The repetitive process of creating them proved absorbing and calming. Out of a period of ugliness and disorder came something beautiful.

For Jane Fielder, painting has always been about seeing the world, finding beauty in it and sharing that vision with others.

The exhibition runs from 15 October until 8 November 2026 at the Bingley Gallery, 29b Park Road BD164BQ with a preview, open to all, between 7 and 9pm on Weds 14th.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

[et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.20.2″ background_color=”#000000″ custom_padding=”31px|0px|30.8167px|0px|false|false”][et_pb_row background_color_1=”#000000″ _builder_version=”3.20.2″ background_color=”#000000″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Intro” _builder_version=”3.20.2″ background_color=”#000000″] Jane Fielder: Other SidesPREVIEW -ALL WELCOME 7 TO 9pm , Weds 14th October. Our new exhibition at The Bingley Gallery celebrates the work of one of the town’s best-known artists, Jane Fielder. It is always something a bit special; a chance for regular exhibitors to prepare new work, the past year’s soloists to return with potential Christmas offerings and to give space to new artists who have caught the eye during the year. The front exhibition space in the gallery may have as many as 20 artists work on show. There is always a little uncertainty as to what turns up on installation day, but an eclectic mix can be expected, with no themes, no tonal co-ordination- and a huge range of media- a true Christmas Variety Show, with something to suit all tastes. With concerns over the global supply chain in the run up to Christmas, it is good to know that locally produced goods are still available, with the additional benefits of minimal, transport-related, carbon emissions, support for local producers, and the survival of independent retailers. The Bingley Gallery, has been based on Park Road, Bingley for the past 15 years, originally under the ownership of Jane Fielder and more recently by David Starley. Both are artists themselves, and both continue the tradition of supporting many other talented artists that work in our region by providing exhibition space and marketing for them.

[25

post-10074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exhibitions
["GET
