http:\/\/davidstarleyartist.com\/bingley\/wp-content\/uploads\/video-tour-watercolour-3.27-lower-size-.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n‘Watercolour\u2019 launched on Wednesday 26 Feb and, despite its title, includes a range of media including pen and wash, gouache and thinned acrylic. It does, as usual, provide me with an opportunity to bring the work of some of my favourite artists to the Bingley Gallery.<\/p>\n
Some of these are new to the Gallery. Kate Lycett comes with a big reputation and loyal following. You may have seen her \u2018Lost Houses\u2019 themed travelling exhibition which included Keighley\u2019s Cliffe Castle Museum \u2013 intricate and gorgeously decorated work. This time East Coast views dominate, from the cliffs at Flamborough Head to the castles of Northumberland, then, closer to home, Haworth Parsonage and Bolton Priory.<\/p>\n
The paintings of Carole Gaunt weren\u2019t known to me until last year, despite her living in nearby Baildon, but the work deserves much wider recognition. Carole\u2019s main subjects are garden flowers, depicted en masse with jewel like colours. They are a tonic to the viewer and a welcome reminder that spring will soon be with us.<\/p>\n
We couldn\u2019t cover watercolour without including Bingley\u2019s own Jane Fielder, who\u2019s been working hard at a range of new work for the show, about which she and we, are very excited. Pride of place goes to a new Janescape featuring Bradford City\u2019s ground, Valley Parade, but there are other local views, as well as some intriguing semi-architectural studies of Roman Villa plans.\u00a0 In addition, the ever-popular combination of Stella Verity and Rob Thomson are back to add their distinctive flavours to the show and Helen Shearwood will be contributing a selection of her contemporary-styled work.<\/p>\n
Accompanying the show will be a range of 3D work, including new sculptures from Mick Kirkby-Geddes, the artist behind the River Aire Sculpture Trail.<\/p>\n
At the begining of Lockdown all artists were happy for their work to remain with the gallery. Sadly this can’t be visited in person at present, but the ‘virtual tour’s cover it inby video and stills.
