Many of our regular exhibitors have prepared new work, some of the highlights of this year\u2019s exhibitions have been brought back and a little space has been left for new artists whose work has caught our eye during the year.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition runs from 16 November until Christmas Eve then 30th and 31st December<br \/>\nEXHIBITION EXTENDED UNTIL 7 JAN 2023<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JB Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4>Josie Barraclough<\/h4>\n<p>Josie Barraclough, born in Scarborough and a former Head Of Art at Bradford Grammar School is showcasing her latest work at the Bingley Gallery, during the Christmas Show (November:December). Her work has evolved from a fascination with colour and texture, experimenting with different elements of oil paint and mixed media, predominantly on canvas. The work on display at Bingley is a small sample of new work, which continues her expressive attitude to content and colour and reflects her emotive interpretation of subject matter. For over twenty years Josie Barraclough was able to inspire her students as well as provide an example by working with them as well as alongside &#8211; developing young talent to create vibrant and emotive work. Travel has also inspired her work, from her time living in Australia to her travels in Europe and of course closer to home, in England. Landscape, nature, the built environment and animate subjects, sketched or referenced on location are then vigorously interpreted in her Liversedge studio.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JB Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6401,6396,6400,6397,6398,6399&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;10&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;TW Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tracey Waddington Drawing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among new artists showing this Christmas is Tracey Waddington. She draws exquisitely in graphite, pastel charcoal and often embellishes the final work with gold leaf. Her goddess series explore female beauty and power, whist the studies of ravens magnificently capture these characterful birds, bringing to mind their role in ancient mythology.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;TW Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6429,6430,6431,6432,6433&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;BH Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4>Bonehead<\/h4>\n<p>Bonehead grew up here on Park Rd and attending local schools, \u2018cared only for his art, graphics and design technology grades\u2019. Going on to art college, he hoped, would lead to a creative career, but jobs on offer to a youngster were poorly paid and in frustration he walked onto a local building site \u2013 the First School he\u2019d attended \u2013 and was offered a job labouring. The combination of hard graft combined with creativity in restoring and developing property worked well until \u2018my back fell out of with the building trade\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Attending night school to learn autoCAD, he came across a laser cutting machine, \u2018an amazing bit of kit\u2019 and bought his own to be able to offer signage alongside other building work. Not content with the serious stuff, mark, a fan of street art and graffiti art, put the cutter and spray-paint to work on some art work influenced by this, then brought them down to the Bingley Gallery where proprietor, David Starley immediately offered the chance to put them in the next show.<\/p>\n<p>Having come full circle, he reckons it\u2019s \u2018pretty amazing\u2019 to be back in Bingley doing art and playing around like he did as a young lad. He\u2019s even adopting his schoolboy nickname \u2018Bonehead\u2019 as his artist\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;BH Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;4776,6368,5991,5693,5993,5996,5997,6369&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JF Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4>Jane Fielder<\/h4>\n<p>Jane Fielder, the Gallery\u2019s previous owner continues to be a favourite and whilst her \u2018Janescapes\u2019 are a regular feature of the gallery, she\u2019s always happy to try something new for exhibitions. These new works include Three &#8216;Heavenly Journeys&#8221;, based on images collected on a recent trip to the Dales\u00a0 &#8220;We spent a precious few days with our family and grandchildren in a house in Litton in the Dales, surrounded by the most beautiful countryside. One day we went to Langcliffe to see the salmon jumping. We were not disappointed. It was a heavenly day walking, waiting and watching. I first saw these at Art in the Pen in the summer of 2023 and knew I had to include some in our Christmas show. Despite taking time out to do a long distance walk in western Australia, she pulled out all the stops to get these ready for our show.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JIT Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6462,6463,6464,6465,6466,6467,6468,6469,6470,6471,6472,6473,6474,6475,6476,6477,6478,6479,6480,6481&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;24&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;SH  text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Sarah Light (Seven Hands) Embroidery and Felting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sarah, who is now based in Wilsden, uses free machine embroidery over a wet-felted base to create vibrant, expressive work. Her work is inspired by of Yorkshire and the environment. Apparently, her trading name, Seven Hands, comes from the hand paintings found in the Lascaux caves in France. \u201cThe early artists used to put ochre in their mouths, work it into a liquid and then spit it around their hands creating a silhouette. I just love the family group of hands, it&#8217;s like artists reaching across time, all of us leaving our mark\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;SH Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6419,6059,6490,6489,6491&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;24&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JM Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jade Marczynski &#8211; Hand Embroidery<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jade is a Textile Crafts graduate from the University of Huddersfield. Her work focuses on the architecture in and around her home city of Bradford, particularly of local, independent businesses which make-up the traditional high street. Using photographs as a starting point, she hand embroiders pieces in an illustrative style, focusing on the quicks and individuality of the buildings and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JM Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6420,6424,6421,6422,6423&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;15&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;TD Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Tony Dexter &#8211; acrylics<br \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Tony is a Wharfedale artist painting original contemporary images in acrylic on canvas. After studying and gaining a fine art degree in sculpture in the late 1960\u2019s his art \u2018took a back and it was only in 2015, with retirement, that he took the opportunity to restart his creative work-and for the very first time started to paint. Tony\u2019s work is vibrant merging figurative and abstract elements to create highly colourful and visually striking paintings. His work, often inspired by wooden fishing boats, old barns, the sea and Scottish crofts give a unique and vivid perspective on a scale that has impact, has contrast and is bright and distinctive.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;TD Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;4585,6425,6428,6426,6427&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;15&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;AC Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4><strong>L. Amy Charlesworth<br \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Amy is based in Bradford, has a BA fine art degree from Leeds Metropolitan University and works in oils on canvas. She covers a diverse range of subjects, painting whatever appeals to her, whether it be an old pair of gym shoes, or a complex spiral staircase. Her style is hyperrealistic. He is a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/airevalleyarts.co.uk\/\">Aire Valley Arts Group<\/a>. David\u2019s subjects explore the natural landscape of Yorkshire and beyond, with trees as the central focus of much of his work. Whilst trees are familiar objects in our environment, they are too easily passed without attention. By portraying the forms and character of individual trees, or groups in woodland, the viewer is led to a greater appreciation of these living structures \u2013 changeless yet changing, strong yet vulnerable, never to be taken for granted.<\/p>\n<p>Oil paint is very thickly applied (impastp) with a painting knife to produce a three-dimensional, almost sculpted, image. She has lived and worked from her home\/studio in\u00a0 Haworth W. Yorks for the past 14 years but has previously lived\/worked in 7 other countries and travelled to many more.\u00a0 Her artwork is non representational but is nevertheless often inspired by her knowledge, experience and found objects collected from other cultures. She prefers to work on a large scale with her customary bold colours and contrasts but today often works smaller to accommodate clients and space available in her working environment.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JS Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6584,6582,6583&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;PH Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4>Paul Hudson<\/h4>\n<p>Paul Hudson is a member of the Aire Valley Artists Group and \u2018Inkers\u2019and , printing, weaving, painting and ceramics are amongst his repertoir. The two pieces in the Christmas Exhibition use the first two tequniges to creat art in response to the Bradford Textile Collection. Paul explained &#8220;Starting with the way a weaving is noted down in the work books I imagined how to relate those patterns into an actual weave&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;PH Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6093,6094&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;FE Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Fran Elliott<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Based in Silsden, West Yorkshire, Fran is a fine artist working in watercolours, inks and acrylics. After completing an Art History Degree, Fran graduated in Paper Conservation at Camberwell School of Art and began her career as the Egyptian Papyrus Conservation Officer at the British Museum. Largely self-taught, she pursued her creative studies privately, alongside a Civil Service career before completing an art foundation training at Leeds College. Fran has become known for her painterly works of florals, figurative works of animals, landscapes and beach scenes. Drawing on her original works, she also designs surface patterns for the fashion industry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;FE Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6444,6446,6443,6445&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;10&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;DM Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Daniel Metcalfe\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oils<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s oil paintings tend to be inspired by nature and landscape. Paint is used in a fairly loose manner and the work can move either towards realism or abstraction depending on the subject matter. He is particularly interested in finding satisfying ways of applying paint so that patterns and shapes are emphasised. Previously a Bingley Resident, he now lives in Thornton.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;DM Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6105,6101,6102,6103,6104&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;10&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;nw Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Nina Wright \u00a0Ceramics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nina produces a wide range of ceramics, often functional but beautiful, wheel-thrown work intended to enhance everyday routines. In the gallery we routinely have just a small selection of her unglazed porcelain tea-light holders. The incised designs and \u2018torn\u2019 edges of which become evident through the translucent ceramic when the light is burning. For the Christmas show Nina has brought along a selection of platters and large bowl in bold designs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;NW Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6106,6525,6526,6527,6528,6529,6530,6531,6532&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;15&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;LB Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Liz Brooks<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Further colour is brought to the gallery by Liz Brook\u2019s fused glass. It seems only recently that she was first experimenting with this medium, but she\u2019s now competing with the best artists in the field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;LB Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;6112,6113,6114,6115,6116,6117&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;10&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;DAN Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniel Shiel \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Photographic Artist &amp; Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s photographic work is put into context by his career in archaeology. He traces his preoccupations back to childhood holidays in Wales and Cornwall; walking in landscapes scarred by past mining and the ruins of agricultural change.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel continues to walk, explore and look and, through photography, collects the rich textures and patterns he sees in everyday objects both natural and artificial; details often overlooked at first glance. These images provide the \u2018materials\u2019 or \u2018palettes\u2019 with which he explores and develops themes associated with the past, absence and decay. He considers his work as psycho-geographical adventures into the marginal and semi-abandoned areas that lie at the edge of the urban environment and the countryside.<\/p>\n<p>The landscapes and objects he photographs have \u2018minor histories\u2019; from creation through decay to final abandonment, with repair and recycling further enriching their \u2018history\u2019 and increasing the complexity of their appearance. The resulting structures may have a surrealist quality; becoming landscapes that are the settings for a questionable and unsettling narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u2019s latest project combines photographic editing and collage with writing. His new book, set in the village of Thornton, West Yorkshire combines alternative history, fantasy and humour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thorntichronicon<\/strong>: A History and Guide to a Yorkshire Village and a Parallel World<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;DAN Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;1476,1449,6242&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;10&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JR Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>June Russell Printmaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>June is a printmaker who trained at Bradford College, and now works from her studio at South Square in Thornton. She uses a wide range of traditional and contemporary printmaking methods, but is currently concentrating on etching and drypoint etching, producing very small editions in which each print is subtly different.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Her work is based on observation and drawing and is always about places &#8211; real, imagined or a mixture of the two. She is interested in the glamour and fascination of landscapes, and in the hold that even very ordinary places can have over our imagination. It is always something a bit special; a chance for regular exhibitors to prepare new work, the past year\u2019s soloists to return with potential Christmas offerings and to give space to new artists who have caught the eye during the year. The front exhibition space in the gallery may have as many as 20 artists work on show. There is always a little uncertainty as to what turns up on installation day, but an eclectic mix can be expected, with no themes, no tonal co-ordination- and a huge range of media- a true Christmas Variety Show, with something to suit all tastes. With concerns over the global supply chain in the run up to Christmas, it is good to know that locally produced goods are still available, with the additional benefits of minimal, transport-related, carbon emissions, support for local producers, and the survival of independent retailers. The Bingley Gallery, has been based on Park Road, Bingley for the past 15 years, originally under the ownership of Jane Fielder and more recently by David Starley.
