Jochen Gren and Rose Jollands, two artists with a shared love of bold colours and innovative techniques, feature in a new exhibition at The Bingley Gallery. With oddly similar but contrasting ways of expressing their creativity, their friendship shows through in this first showcase of their work as a creative duo.<\/p>\n

Jocham\u2019s work includes embroidery \u2013 a lifetime passion, and painting – the latter taken up in later years. When his disability made it difficult to hold paint brushes he started using his hands to manipulate the paint, with spirals and swirling patterns an integral element in his abstract expressionist work. In a further step original pieces may be digitised and processed to create new artwork.<\/p>\n

Rose Jollands is a multi-media artist for whom visual art has always been a part of her life, but in the past ten years has focussed on painting. One aspect of her dyslexia is a naturally short attention span, which she has managed to turn into a creative asset- using her phone as a sketchbook, to save fleeting moments which otherwise fades quickly from memory. The images are transformed into artworks, overpainting old picture frames from charity shops adding paints, powders and pigments to conjure an image from raw materials like a magician or an alchemist, seeking ways to render not only the photograph but her memory of that moment.<\/p>\n
