Inspired by experiences whilst travelling her subject work draws mainly on naturalistic elements landscapes, botanical and still life \u2013 finding that it\u2019s often a tiny item of information which spurs a series of paintings.<\/p>\n<p>Her work has developed in an expressive style in a variety of media \u2013 predominantly oil on canvas sometimes overlayin collage, and is powerful both in subject matter and colour.\u00a0 Josie Barraclough paints mainly at her West Yorkshire studio and teaches art.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JB Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;8092,7769,7770,7889,8093&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;TD Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4><strong>Tony Dexter<br \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Tony is a Wharfedale artist painting original contemporary images in acrylic on canvas. A regular exhibitor, Tony\u2019s work is vibrant merging figurative and abstract elements to create highly colourful and visually striking paintings. His work, often inspired by wooden fishing boats, old barns, the sea and Scottish crofts give a unique and vivid perspective on a scale that has impact, has contrast and is bright and distinctive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;TD Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;8094,8095,8096,8097&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;MB Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4><strong>Marilyn Brophy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Marilyn Brophy has been a visual artist for most of what she says was a \u2018a very full life\u2019. Admitting that these combined both painful circumstances with joyful experiences, her art has followed through these paths, taking imagery from sublime to distorted perceptions of emotion whilst work has taken her from Guyana teaching teachers to embrace education for students with special needs to running Marin\u2019s tearoom \/gallery in Haworth. Under grey Yorkshire skies she \u2018found\u2019 colour and has held onto it, believing that colour is synonymous with life. For ever finding new themes to explore, her work on show in this exhibition features cats behaving badly\u2026. in vintage surroundings. Asking about the origins of these, she proved elusive \u2013 not even liking cats due to their impact on her garden. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;MB Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;8150,7775,7776,8149,8151,7777&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;LAC Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>L. Amy Charlesworth<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Amy is a Bradford born painter with a BA fine art degree from Leeds Metropolitan University who has worked and exhibited her hyperrealist paintings in Bingley, for many years, building up a reputation as a distinctive and original artist.<\/p>\n<p>Working primarily in oils on canvas, Amy covers an amazingly diverse range of subjects from landscapes to botanical, architecture to animals and birds, figurative to industrial machinery, and pretty much anything in between. Her work is highly representational. As she puts it \u201cI like things to look like they look\u201d. This does not mean that the work is without her own twist. Frequently a more dramatic feel is brought out by the use of strong shadows and light, but the resulting work is always instantly recognisable as hers.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;LAC Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;7343,8137,6435,8138,8139,8140,8141,8146,8142,8143,8144,8145,8147&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;12&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;HSW Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Heather Swain<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Heather, who works from her home studio in Baildon is passionate about printmaking, with lino-cutting as her most common technique. Subject matter varies from careful studies from nature through to more abstracted works. Although the prints are produced as small \u2018limited editions, her tendency to experiment and vary colours and techniques during printing often results in subtle differences within editions. Her work is inspired by of Yorkshire and the environment. Apparently, her trading name, Seven Hands, comes from the hand paintings found in the Lascaux caves in France. \u201cThe early artists used to put ochre in their mouths, work it into a liquid and then spit it around their hands creating a silhouette. The latter have inspired paintings and drawings from wonderful formal gardens to the humble allotments at Beckfoot in Bingley. \u201cI never tire of the link between the formal structure and the plants that grow and are nurtured within\u201d. A wide range of media including pen and ink, drawing ink, watercolour and acrylic combine in her work to make pictures that reflect her love of man-made structures and natural forms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;SL Gallery&#8221; gallery_ids=&#8221;7784,7783,7782,7781&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;15&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_gallery][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;KR Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; background_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Karen Rowley<\/span><br \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Karen Rowley was one or the original members of Aire Valley Arts back in 1995. Oil paint is very thickly applied (impasto) with a painting knife to produce a three-dimensional, almost sculpted, image. During these studies, she rediscovered her schoolhood love of ceramics. Since then, she has developed her own characteristic style and her work has been successfully shown across the country. The work is inspired by the upland landscape of Pennine Yorkshire. It is always something a bit special; a chance for regular exhibitors to prepare new work, the past year\u2019s soloists to return with potential Christmas offerings and to give space to new artists who have caught the eye during the year. The front exhibition space in the gallery may have as many as 20 artists work on show. There is always a little uncertainty as to what turns up on installation day, but an eclectic mix can be expected, with no themes, no tonal co-ordination- and a huge range of media- a true Christmas Variety Show, with something to suit all tastes. With concerns over the global supply chain in the run up to Christmas, it is good to know that locally produced goods are still available, with the additional benefits of minimal, transport-related, carbon emissions, support for local producers, and the survival of independent retailers. The Bingley Gallery, has been based on Park Road, Bingley for the past 15 years, originally under the ownership of Jane Fielder and more recently by David Starley.
