Continuing our coverage of Bradford\u2019s artistic talent in City of Culture year, this solo show features Leyla Murr, an abstract artist, working both from her Eldwick home and The Dockfield Road Creative Arts Hub in Shipley. She is joined in this exhibition by Victoria Chichinadze a sculptor working in cast bronze.<\/p>\n
Leyla creates art which explores a meeting point between reality and abstraction with a finely tuned sensitivity to colour and a deep fascination with the mechanism of light.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Her paintings are constructed by coordinating different elements: The application of paint on canvas, the use of colour and spontaneous mark making. The process is rarely planned and her paintings undergo many changes until they are brought to the point where they feel resolved.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In Leyla\u2019s words: \u2018I want the viewer to see through my eyes and appreciate how beautiful the world is when you really notice how the light falls, how colours interact, and the energy which can be found in a landscape when you train your eyes to see it.\u2019<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Victoria is the creator of exquisitely beautiful bronze sculptures, using the lost wax casting technique and finishing using hot and cold patination techniques. A native of Ukraine, she is currently based in Ilkley. We are so fortunate that an artist with an international reputation and a back catalogue of exhibitions across Europe has chosen to be based in our region, not least because traditional copper alloy casting techniques, particularly at this level of quality, are so rare amongst UK-trained artists.<\/p>\n We do hope you enjoy this shared exhibition between Leyla and Victoria we feel the two artists make a very pleasing combination. It is always something a bit special; a chance for regular exhibitors to prepare new work, the past year\u2019s soloists to return with potential Christmas offerings and to give space to new artists who have caught the eye during the year. The front exhibition space in the gallery may have as many as 20 artists work on show. There is always a little uncertainty as to what turns up on installation day, but an eclectic mix can be expected, with no themes, no tonal co-ordination- and a huge range of media- a true Christmas Variety Show, with something to suit all tastes. With concerns over the global supply chain in the run up to Christmas, it is good to know that locally produced goods are still available, with the additional benefits of minimal, transport-related, carbon emissions, support for local producers, and the survival of independent retailers. The Bingley Gallery, has been based on Park Road, Bingley for the past 15 years, originally under the ownership of Jane Fielder and more recently by David Starley.
