His paintings reflect northern life, often nostalgic with a twist of humour and a subtle nod to the bantams<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;AS Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8833,8836,8845,8834,8835,8837,8838,8839,8840,8841,8842,8843,8844,8832&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;MD Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>\nMatthew Duckett<br \/>Born in Leeds in 1966 Mathew lived in Ilkley on and off from 1976 to 2000. He studied at Bradford College and then at Central St Martins in London and taught at Leeds College of Art for twenty-five years. He currently lives in Baildon.<br \/>The majority of his work are abstracted recollection of intimately known local landscapes, but these images differ. They are rooted more firmly in a tangible reality but are more distant in that they are based on photographs of distant places, long ago. Any clues to their context have been removed. I make no claim to \u2018ownership\u2019 and apologise to anyone who might recognise a connection to a time, a place, or an event, though as some might guess, movies are sometimes referred to.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;MD Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8846,8847,8848,8849,8850,8851,8852,8853,8854,8855,8856,8857,8858,8859&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;RS Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Richard Smith \u2013 textile design-related artefacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After his family\u2019s three generations in Bradford\u2019s textile design and weaving business, Richard turned to archiving the surviving artefacts of the design process.\u00a0 In a further step he has prepared a range of these artefacts into framed wall art. Whether original artwork, or the \u2018point papers\u2019 which transformed the design into a pixelated matrix before the punching of the cards used by Jacquard looms, the marks and annotations of past generations of textile workers emphasise their input. The designs are also redolent of their period, from the bold, strikingly coloured fabrics of the 1970s, to more classical weaves of earlier years.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;RS Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8861,8862,8863,8864,8865&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;IT Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ian Tothill \u2013 Mixed Media and collage <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ian spent much of his working life helping children develop their creativity and self expression. During lockdown in 2020 he started his own art practice, making collages for a zine being compiled by his daughter. He found a thriving friendly online community of collage artists who share ideas, challenges, materials and encouragement. His work has now been accepted for exhibitions around the world, held solo shows locally and published.. \u00a0The South Square Collage Club, which he founded in 2021, meets monthly, is open to all , from complete beginners to art college lecturers.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s quite a story behind most of his work \u2018Tumbling Hill\u2019 is a collage made in response to the theme of his audio visual performance project \u2018Beck\u2019 by Ian\u2019s audio visual duo Latterhand. He describes the inspiration \u201cThere\u2019s a car wash on Thornton Road near the city centre where Bradford Beck briefly appears above ground. The owner was interested in the music within the film project and told us about his ambitions to study playing the oud as a boy. He didn\u2019t get the grades for college so trained to be an accountant instead, now his days are spent running a hand car wash. The collage picks up the colours and shapes of the site and includes a bit of the fence which had fallen off.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Believe\u2019 is the word found on a piece of discarded paper. Bradford, a city of dreams, built on the wool trade, now celebrating a year of culture and moving onwards into a positive future. \u2018Strata 6\u2019 was made as part of a project about West Yorkshire stone, it includes fragments from all kinds of sources; rubbings from stone steps, old maps, discarded scratch cards, ancient paper, advertising hoardings and much more \u00a0built up in layers over time.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;IT Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8869,8867,8870,8866&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JH Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jane Hurford &#8211; Ceramics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jane is Fascinated by clay and its endless possibilities she makes a wide variety of forms usually inspired by natural forms, Yorkshire and the idiosyncrasies of the clay itself. \u201cJust because something is made of clay it does not have to be round and useful.\u201d.She usually produces her pieces at Hive in Shipley where she also teaches.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JH Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8872,8871,8874,8873,8875,8876&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;BM Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bev Morten \u2013 Mixed Media<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was wowed by Bev\u2019s mixed media work at the recent Saltaire Art Trail (a source for many of our exhibitors). A graduate of the Bradford School of Art, she works from her studio in South Square, Thornton. Her work focuses on the forms and colours found in the natural world.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;BM Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8877,8878&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;VC Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Victoria Chichinadze Bronze Sculptor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Victoria is the creator of exquisitely beautiful bronze sculptures, using the lost wax casting technique and finishing using hot and cold patination techniques. A native of Ukraine, she is currently based in Ilkley. We are so fortunate that an artist with an international reputation and a back catalogue of exhibitions across Europe has chosen to be based in our region, not least because traditional copper alloy casting techniques, particularly at this level of quality, are so rare amongst UK-trained artists. Added to her showing this exhibition are two new bird-themed works.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;VC Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8881,8733,8880,8731&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;HS Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heather Swain &#8211; Linocuts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heather , who works from her home studio in Baildon is passionate about printmaking, with lino-cutting as her most common technique. Subject matter varies from careful studies from nature through to more abstracted works. Although the prints are produced as small \u2018limited editions, her tendency to experiment and vary colours and techniques during printing often results in subtle differences within editions. We&#8217;re thrilled that she came up with a new view, of Five rise Locks, for this show.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;HS Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8895,8117,8121,8114,8115,8123,8116,8135&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;SV Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stella Verity &#8211; Watercolour &amp; Collage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As well as a watercolour artist Stella is a keen gardener and cook and this is reflected in her subjects usually of flowers fruit or vegetables. \u201cI love the vibrant colours and the amazing patterns of the natural world and try to replicate the beauty and variety in my work\u201d. A new development is her neurographic art work. This artistic approach uses free-flowing organic lines and is considered as being therapeutic and meditative.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;SV Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8882,8883,8884,8885,8886,8887&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;RT Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rob Thomson &#8211; watercolour<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Tom\u2019 came to painting later in life after a career in architecture, painting in both oils and the watercolour in this show. As you might expect the laws of perspective come as second nature. In this year\u2019s show a couple of works are based on historic photos and others, in a new move, incorporate linen gauze to create texture in an otherwise flat medium.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;RT Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;7830,8888,8889,8890,8891,8892&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;AJGText&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alan John Green (1921 \u2013 2020) Watercolour and pastel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t normally include non-contemporary artists in our summer show but have made an exception for this Alan (A contemporary \u00a0of Hockney and Bradford School of Art, I\u2019m told), whose work remains fresh and depicts our local landscape, particularly the Leeds Liverpool Canal with love and skill.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;AJG Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8555,8902,8421,8642&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JF Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jane Fielder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Needing no introduction, Jane Fielder WAS the Bingley Gallery long before David came on the scene<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;JF Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8938,8939,8940&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;LM Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leyla Murr \u2013 Acrylic abstracted landscapes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leyla is a predominantly abstract artist, working both from her Eldwick home and The Dockfield Road Creative Arts Hub in Shipley. Originally from Zagreb, Croatia, her artistic training allowed her to turn professional 20 years ago. Not surprisingly her work has an international appeal and can be found in collections across the world.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;LM Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8684,8670,8649&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;CA Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rachel Hinds (formerly working as Clarke Avery) oil painter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rachel Hinds is a fine artist who, as an archaeology graduate, is inspired by the past, particularly by 19th century romantic paintings. She reimagines the past with a dash of colour, conjuring up atmospheric and dramatic scenes that interact directly with the on-looker\u2019s emotions. Expect Viking longships venturing into rocky inlets, coastal scenes with nineteenth century frigates peacefully moored and shepherds bringing their flocks down from the moors at the approach of winter. The painting style is described by the Leeds \u2013born artist as \u2018experimental with expressive brushstrokes, strong colours and textures\u2019. There is a high degree of abstraction within the landscapes which often contrasts with the detail of the focal subject matter.<\/p>\n<p>rld.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_gallery admin_label=&#8221;CA Gallery&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243; gallery_ids=&#8221;8531,8530,7971,4927&#8243; posts_number=&#8221;20&#8243; hover_overlay_color=&#8221;rgba(255,255,255,0.9)&#8221; \/][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;JLText&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.20.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"Textbody\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\">Judith Levin &#8211; oils<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"Textbody\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\">Judith is an internationally collected still life and landscape artist based in Otley. Best known for her depictions of the heather-clad moorland of our region: In our opinion no other painter brings out its brooding beauty quite as effectively as Judith. Although, her subject matter can be far more varied, she seems drawn to return to the big open spaces. It is always something a bit special; a chance for regular exhibitors to prepare new work, the past year\u2019s soloists to return with potential Christmas offerings and to give space to new artists who have caught the eye during the year. The front exhibition space in the gallery may have as many as 20 artists work on show. There is always a little uncertainty as to what turns up on installation day, but an eclectic mix can be expected, with no themes, no tonal co-ordination- and a huge range of media- a true Christmas Variety Show, with something to suit all tastes. With concerns over the global supply chain in the run up to Christmas, it is good to know that locally produced goods are still available, with the additional benefits of minimal, transport-related, carbon emissions, support for local producers, and the survival of independent retailers. The Bingley Gallery, has been based on Park Road, Bingley for the past 15 years, originally under the ownership of Jane Fielder and more recently by David Starley.
