Arthur Mc.Arthur (c.1828 to 1892) Watercolour Painter, Bradford

About the Artist

Arthur Mc.Arthur c1828 -1892

Research by the gallery suggests McArthur was born in France moving to Leicestershire then Nottingham but was based in Bradford in the early 1870s – His family were weevers and moved to follow demand. He trained as a lithographer before becoming an artist and his contemporary views of ‘old’ Bradford provide a fond glimpse of the city on the verge of redevelopment into Worstedopolis. Some of the works held by the gallery have been found to have numerous notes about the subject in the margins. Whilst not of the highest artistic merit, and showing signs of aging they remain a fascinating historical resource..
