Govinder Nazran (1964-2008) Bradford & Saltaire

About the Artist

Govinder Nazran  1964 – 2008

Born in Birmingham, Govinder moved to the Bradford area at an early age when his father found work in the textiles industry here. He studied graphic design – first at Bradford then Lincoln Art Colleges. A move from designing greeting cards to a contract with printmakers Washinton Green, catapulted the artist to international recognition. He worked from his home in Saltaire. Govinder’s art is instantly recognisable, particularly that featuring highly stylised cats and dogs. Typically, the picture was built up using oil bars, with medium warmed and further manipulated by the artist’s hands.  Whilst the subject matter may appear fun and frivolous there are often deeper meanings. Originals are highly sought after and even his limited prints rarely surface. Govinder died tragically early after a seizure and fall in 2008.
