Our new exhibition is ‘Living in the Natural World’ by local up-coming contemporary artist, Ben Snowden. Since Ben’s first solo exhibition was held at the Gallery when Jane Fielder ran it. Since then Ben has received multiple awards and plaudits for his work and had been hung alongside some of the great names of contemporary art such as David Hockney, Frank Auerbach and Tracey Emin. More recently his art was selected as part of the ‘Made in Britain’ exhibition at The National Gallery of Poland in Gdansk.

His usual art materials are not those to be found in the average art supply shop, preferring instead to work with enamel, spray paint, graphite and household paints on materials, such as paper, board, card, textiles and wood, that he finds in everyday life. The finished work is then beautifully box-framed to give an almost museum like display that is both impactful and fascinating.

In the Ben’s words ‘My work explores the relationships and ideas between subject and emotion, combining visceral energy with experience through painting. Inspired by the natural world, poetry and memory. I use the language of abstraction to create work that emphasises on mood and expression to determine the overall feeling of the paintings…… My main focus is to create work that evokes the senses and ultimately communicates a positive and constructive view of the world.

Ben Snowden’s current exhibition at the Bingley Gallery ‘Living in The Natural World’ runs from 12 August to 26 September.

Please note that the ‘Meet the Artist Dayplanned for Saturday 21st August has been postponed due to ill-health, but the gallery will still be open
