John Sowden 1838-1926
A Bradfordian architect turned wealthy property developer who balanced this with the position of Master, then Head of Art at The Mechanics Institute His own output of paintings was notable in quantity and quality, including portraits of the Bradford well-to-do and, famously, street characters over 300 of which are held by the Bradford museums Service.
