Amy Charlesworth AC046 Posing Cow, Hewenden Viaduct 81x57cm £420

This exhibition had been intended to be “Amy Charlesworth New Work”, but iwhen the time came, with a few of her lockdown pieces sold  and her natural modesty, it became the Gallery’s Autumn show with a much broader range of artists. It will be relatively short, closing on 15 November, so don’t delay in dropping by to view it.

It does, However showcase a number of Amy’s new works – she’s an artist who has used the Covid period to her advantage, producing an array of landscapes, animal portraits and the still lives which are characteristically hers.

xhibition also has a smattering of work from some of my other favourite artists. Clarke Avery has come up with some atmospheric views of Ilkley Moor amongst other places. We have etchings from Jan Whittock and there is further fresh work from Kate Stewart, the subjects of which, I know nothing, but whether fabric or watercolour or both combined, I can be sure they will be touchingly beautiful.

We also took the decision to keep on our two woodwork artists. Not least because Covid caution has greatly reduced the number of visitors to the Gallery and their work deserves to be more widely seen. Gavin Edward’s speciality is wall-mounted wooden panels and Mike Bentley is a wood turner. Between them they demonstrate the beauty of wood with great craftmanship and a twist of originality.

The Autumn Exhibitionwill run from Thursday 8 October to Sunday 15 November in the front Exhibition room, whilst our regular artists work will continue to be shown in the six other areas of the gallery. Hours are back to 12-6 on Thursdays & Fridays, 10-5 on Saturdays & Sundays, also by appointment and the ‘open’ sign is showing.
